After a successful inaugural Walk to School initiative to encourage students to walk to school on Wednesdays last year, the program kicked off last month. The program was a great success last year in part because of a group from Student Leadership Johns Creek who worked in conjunction with Councilman Chris Coughlin on this undertaking as part of their first-year community project. This year a group from Johns Creek High School is working to help make the Walk to School mission their endeavor for community involvement. Families at Ocee Elementary, Dolvin Elementary and State Bridge schools all enjoyed Wednesdays walk days last month and continue this month. We encourage all parents and students to walk to school on these days – it is a fun way to enjoy a morning of family time, while beginning your day actively and reducing the early morning traffic all at the same time. Drivers, watch for extra foot traffic these days! StudentLeadershipJohnsCreek.com

Feast for All Senses
The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra is bringing back its popular 4-course dinner/cooking extravaganza—“Culinary Fantastique”—on Saturday, November 3, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Publix Aprons Cooking School at Alpharetta Commons, 4305 State Bridge Road. The theme for this 4-course meal (paired with specially-selected wines) will be holiday cooking, featuring mouth-watering new twists on traditional recipes. The evening will be a feast for both the eyes and the ears, as attendees will be treated to parlor-style musical performances by individual Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra musicians at periodic breaks in the evening. Attendees will also learn the backgrounds of the various dishes they are eating, how to prepare each one at home, special cooking techniques, and at the conclusion of the evening they will receive the recipes plus a coupon for a 20% off cooking items purchased from the Publix Aprons Cooking School. $75 per person. Walk With a Doc
The City of Johns Creek and Emory Johns Creek Hospital are encouraging Johns Creek residents to take a step toward better health with Walk with a Doc (WWAD), a health program that brings doctors and patients together to walk on the second Saturday of each month. “We’re thrilled to partner with the City of Johns Creek to help educate the community about a variety of health topics while getting them moving at the same time,” says Marilyn Margolis, CEO of Emory Johns Creek Hospital. “The Walk with a Doc program gives participants a personalized opportunity to ask medical questions in a more casual setting,” says Margolis. Every walk will feature a different health topic, each selected to provide information and the opportunity for walkers to ask questions one-on-one with the participating physician. The first walk will be hosted by Dr. Maria Piraner, Director, Center for Breast Care at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. Coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Piraner will discuss the importance of breast cancer early detection, prevention, and tips to stay healthy. WalkWithADoc.org
Holiday Help Wanted
“C.P.A.” Most of the year, those letters stand for “Certified Public Accountant,” but during the holidays, Davis & Langford CPA changes that to “Christmas Present Assembly.” The same team of fastidious experts that nail taxes down each year make awfully good elves. Exchanging their keyboards for wrenches, they assemble newly donated riding toys, bikes, and play houses. Last year the team at DLCPA donated time to North Fulton Charities’ Santa Shop, where sponsored families and seniors are reminded of the joy of the holidays. Join them this year! firstname.lastname@example.org
