Science Kids

Bridgeway Christian Academy (BCA) has joined forces with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), the country’s foremost provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs.  PLTW is a renowned program that helps students cultivate skills they will need to be successful in a global economy by providing hands-on, real-world activities, projects, and problems. These programs equip students to understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in the classroom relate to the world around them.  Kaala Guess, who is a certified STEM instructor and science teacher at BCA, is laying the foundation for their students to see how STEM are a part of her students’ everyday life. “Being a part of PLTW has transformed my view of teaching and what education can look like. Watching students engage, question, create, learn from their failures, collaborate with their peers… it makes the classroom and the process of learning fun again! I love how our students get excited about overcoming a failure in a build and how they learn to take bits and pieces of each group member’s ideas to make a model or a project that the whole team can be proud of!” There’s a whole new approach to the world and critical thinking. BCA is excited to offer this experience to their middle school students and are confident their students’ will carry what they learn at BCA into their academic career and life in the future. BCA hopes to offer this program to the their lower school in the future.

A Little Country

The Atlanta Opera will present From Opera to Opry: Liquor, Love and the Lord on Tuesday, December 5 at The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. Now in its second year, the holiday concert, in collaboration with ADA Ovations, will feature renowned professional opera singers as well as the bluegrass and country stylings of Cletus McHatfield and the McHatfield Family Singers. The combination of the musical genres gets to the heart of the striking similarity between the themes and inspiration that drove both legendary opera composers and iconic country songwriters to write the music that speaks to us all. The evening’s first half includes performances of great opera arias, followed by a second half of country music similar to what you might hear at the Grand Ole Opry. The performing artists – Michael Mayes, Leah Partridge, Corey Crider and Jonathan Burton – are international opera singers who also share a lifelong passion for country music and the skills to play multiple instruments, namely guitar. These singers are as authentic in their operatic performances as they are in playing rousing renditions of classic country hits. The Atlanta Opera presents From Opera to Opry: Liquor, Love and the Lord on  December 5 at 7:30 p.m. at The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. AtlantaOpera.org 404.881.8885. $35
