Smiling 101

Getting back into the routine of the school year can be challenging, but starting the school year out with a good routine is the key to success.

In my home, we never end summer cold turkey.  We start by practicing a week prior by waking up early and getting back into our school routine, as well as going to bed earlier. Try keeping a toothbrush in a downstairs bathroom or the kitchen, so your kids can brush after breakfast and before they rush out the door for school.  Brushing after lunch can be a challenge, but reminding them to rinse with water will help until they are home from school. Encourage your children to brush and floss after dinner and before story time or homework to ensure it is done before they are “too tired” to do so.

Most of us think of sugar as being the culprit when it comes to cavities, but the reality is that we need to keep a close eye on carbs, too.  Some healthier choices are apple slices, carrots and celery sticks with hummus, yogurt, string cheese and peanut butter with bananas. In terms of drinks, be careful with juice boxes, soda, or chocolate milk, as those have lots of sugars as well. Another big cavity culprit is sports drinks. We are proud of our young athletes, but they really do not need sports or energy drinks to perform better. The more water the better.

The biggest thing that makes our office unique is our culture. We take pride in the fact that we are not just coworkers, we are family. We celebrate together and we rally around each other both in and out of work. As soon as you walk into our office you can feel the bond that we all share, and it is why our daily operations run so smoothly. Another unique factor about our office is our reception area. Our patients love the movie room, video games and our crowd favorite super-sized slide. We also have a beverage center and free wi-fi, so our parents can take a break from their busy day and relax for a moment.

Our philosophy at CDZ is to always treat the whole patient, not just the tooth.  Every plan is individualized for each child and their particular needs and situation.   When you focus on the big picture, you guarantee a solid dental foundation not only now, but for the future as well.

Technology is always changing and that is true in the dental world, too.  We are always striving to offer the latest and best technology and care in our state-of-the-art facility. We continue to offer digital x-rays as well as various modalities to complete your child’s treatment in a safe, comfortable environment. One of the modalities we are proud to offer is having a board-certified anesthesiologist available to complete treatment in one of our in-office procedure suites. It is our goal to partner with our patients and their parents to increase awareness of their child’s oral health, so they can maintain a beautiful and healthy smile for a lifetime.

We have been in Johns Creek for 12 years, and enjoying our beautiful new location for the last 2.5 years.

Come out and visit Dr. Lulu, Dr. Procter and me. We look forward to giving your kids the best dental experience they can have.
