Making Mocktails

When looking to imbibe without the alcohol, bartenders can get creative, using house-made fruit juices, bitters and sodas to create mocktails that will make even the most die-hard cocktail-drinker jealous. Great for adventurous kids, too, these fresh and pretty drinks will make anyone feel special.

Fresh ingredients, house-made mixers, a focus on seasonality and proper technique–these are the keys to making a good mocktail, according to Brendan McMackin, bar manager at Peach & The Porkchop. His “A Pearfect Evening“ recipe utlizes pear jelly with bitters and syrup to make a sweet and sour mocktail.

The Recipe:

“A Pearfect Evening”

1 oz fresh lemon
.5 oz simple syrup
2 bar spoons Maxwell Farms pear jelly
1.5 oz Fee Brothers orgeat syrup
2 dashes Bitter Truth decanter bitters
Shaken with ice and strained into a highball glass with fresh ice. Topped with royal Jamaican ginger beer.
